A registered dietitian for Hanover, wherever you are in it

Hanover sits on the Saugeen River on the border of Grey and Bruce Counties, a small town surrounded by farmland and smaller villages. Eating disorder care in Grey-Bruce is thin for adults, though there is now a promising early-intervention effort for young people, and the town's own Family Health Team is part of it. For adults and for anyone who needs more, virtual care fills a real gap. I work with people across Hanover by secure video.

Lauren is based in Guelph and Toronto and works virtually across Ontario. That means people in Hanover can access specialized nutrition counselling without travelling to a clinic, while still working with someone registered with the College of Dietitians of Ontario.

If you searched for a dietitian in Hanover

You may be looking for general nutrition advice, but many people land here because food has become louder than they want it to be. You might be dealing with restriction, binge eating, guilt after eating, fear foods, body checking, or feeling unsure whether your eating is serious enough to deserve support. It is enough to start a conversation.

What I help with

Every person who reaches out is met where they are. These are the main reasons people in Hanover and across Ontario look for this kind of care:

Serving Hanover and the surrounding area

Because care is virtual, I work with clients in Hanover and nearby communities including Walkerton, Durham, Chesley, Neustadt, and West Grey, as well as people right across Ontario. From town out across the surrounding Grey and Bruce countryside, care reaches you at home. You do not need to live near a clinic to get thoughtful, registered dietitian support. You can also browse every Ontario city served.

Early help for youth, and the gap for everyone else

There is genuinely good news in Grey-Bruce for young people. Through the Grey Bruce Ontario Health Team, an early-intervention initiative called FREEDcan has launched at local Family Health Teams, including the Hanover Family Health Team, to help young people get eating disorder care sooner. If you are a young person early in a struggle, that is a real and welcome door, and worth asking your Family Health Team about.

The harder truth is what surrounds it. FREEDcan is focused on youth and on early intervention, and Grey-Bruce does not have a dedicated specialized adult eating disorder program of its own. The region also sits outside the catchment of London's adult eating disorder service, which covers Huron, Perth, Oxford, and Sarnia-Lambton but not Grey or Bruce.

That leaves adults, and anyone past the early window or not attached to a participating Family Health Team, without a nearby specialized program to turn to.

A dietitian is an open door for exactly those people. Sessions happen by secure video from home in Hanover, there is no referral and no age cap, and the approach is non-diet and weight-inclusive across binge eating, chronic dieting, food anxiety, body image, and eating disorder recovery.

If a young person in the family is being supported through FREEDcan, a dietitian can work alongside it. For everyone the local efforts do not reach, this is somewhere to start now.

None of it comes with judgment, and no referral is needed to begin. Lauren Hofstee is a Registered Dietitian with the College of Dietitians of Ontario, registration number 15869. If it helps to read first, here is how to get eating disorder help in Ontario.
